Questions before you begin

What does a mindful approach to guitar mean?

Mindful guitar study brings attention to listening, movement, and expression. We work on technique and musical understanding while practicing patiently, releasing unnecessary tension, and making room for creativity. You don’t need meditation experience or a particular spiritual belief.

Are lessons suitable for beginners or returning players?

Yes. Whether you’re picking up a guitar for the first time or finding your way back, we begin with your experience and interests. Lessons develop confidence, your ear, and practical skills through clear, manageable steps.

Who will I study with?

You’ll study directly with Thomas Foster, a guitarist, composer, producer, and educator who holds a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) from the USC Thornton School of Music. Thomas brings decades of teaching experience and a personal contemplative practice to a patient, individualized approach.

How do online guitar lessons work?

Lessons are live, personal sessions online. Bring your guitar and a device with a camera, microphone, and reliable internet connection. Use Book a Session to send an inquiry; Thomas will reply personally to discuss your goals, availability, and setup.

What do lessons cost, and how often should we meet?

A 60-minute virtual lesson costs $100. Meet weekly, twice monthly, or once a month, depending on your goals and practice time. Each session is shaped around your playing and the next useful step.

Can I learn with a friend?

Yes. Semi-private lessons welcome up to four students at the same $100 rate for a 60-minute session. Bring up to three friends and explore music together.
